iOS 7 Activation Lock – Removing an iDevice from a previous owner’s account

You must have heard or read by now that iOS 7 has an activation lock option that prevents any unauthorized person to use / erase / restore an iDevice.

That’s really great, but what if you bought an iDevice that is currently activation locked to the previous owner’s account? You sure can’t use it! Unless, the previous owner removes that device from his Find my iPhone list.

For fun, let’s name the previous owner, “Raul”. If you want to activate Raul’s iPhone / iPad or iPod, you’ll have to contact him and ask him to follow these steps to remove the device from his account:

iOS 7 Activation Lock

A great new feature in iOS 7 is the Activation Lock. When you enable Find My iPhone on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 7, the Apple ID and password you use for iCloud is securely stored on Apple’s activation servers and linked to your device. From that point on, your password will be required before anyone can turn off Find My iPhone on your device, erase your device, or reactivate and use your device.
